Hospice is paid via a Medicare, Medicaid or third party. Hospice of Little Traverse Bay will not refuse to care for those without insurance or ability to pay. All patients receive the same level of services regardless of their benefit.

Medicare
The hospice benefit covers the services of hospice staff  along with medications, medical supplies, such as oxygen, and therapy services that are required by the hospice plan of care.

Medicaid
Hospice care is a benefit under Medicaid, including room and board, subject to the patient's Medical patient pay amount.

Private Insurance - Blue Cross & Commercial Insurance
Individual contracts differ in their coverage of Hospice care and nursing home room and board charges.  Hospice of Little Traverse Bay will assist the patient and family in verifying their hospice benefit.

Hiland Cottage Room & Board Fee
Patients and/or families are responsible for all room and board charges when there is no insurance coverage.  In some cases, patients may be required to use a portion of their Social Security income to pay for the nursing home care. Patients and/or families are responsible for paying the long term care facility or Hospice of Little Traverse Bay the Medicaid patient pay amount and any other coinsurance and deductible amounts owed.

If a patient is in Hiland Cottage, hospice residence, or long term care facility, room and board expenses are the resident's responsibility unless the insurance specifically covers room and board costs.
