13 Month Bereavement Program

Hospice of Little Traverse Bay care and support continues for loved ones and family members of our patients after their death.  We provide support to individuals when their loved one first enters Hospice care and continues through 13 months after the death.  The Bereavement program has trained staff and volunteers available to provide support.

Bereavement Services Include

Supportive Counseling - Our bereavement counselor works with the patient and their loved ones upon admission to our program.  Following the death the counselor that has been working with them will contact them after the death to assess needs, offer services, and provide emotional support. Supportive literature and a memorial candle is given to each family as desired. We continue to provide telephone support, individual and family counseling as needed through the first year of the grief process.

Bereavement Volunteers -  A listening ear and helping hand is available through our trained bereavement volunteers.

Lending Library - Hospice of Little Traverse Bay collects books, care notes, and supportive literature and encourages our community to use these materials for support through grief Process.

Support Groups - We offer monthly support groups to our hospice bereaved families and the community at large.  Our groups are a safe place to learn about the grief process and find comfort and support.

Bereavement Newsletters and Mailings - Our bereavement team sends regular mailings designed to educate about the grief process, present suggestions for coping with loss, and provide support and encouragement through holidays and anniversaries.

Annual Memorial Service - Each year we gather to remember and honor individuals that died receiving Hospice of Little Traverse Bay care. We invite all families grieving the loss of a loved one to attend.

We adjust our bereavement services to meet each individual’s unique needs.  Thanks to our donors who make this service possible.
